In November 2018, Steve Bannon, formerly a top aide to Donald Trump, was in the UK to deliver a address at the Oxford Union.

The release by the House oversight committee includes an text conversation where Bannon's name is withheld. The BBC has been able to establish his identity by matching the dates, events, and locations referenced.

For example, Epstein discusses chartering a jet from Scotland for the redacted user in the messages, and commends their "Oxford speech". Bannon took part in the Edinburgh conference on November 14, and gave the speech at the Oxford Union two days later.

Bannon, who is not accused of any misconduct, declined to comment on the request for comment.

'I'll make sure you're well looked after'

Bannon served as the president's key aides in the lead-up to the presidential election and in the early days of his presidency, but resigned from the White House in 2017.

He has admitted he was producing a film about Epstein prior to his passing and allegedly has around 15 hours of recordings. In a recording of his show earlier this year, he said: "We're going to release the series, the multi-part documentary, next year - early next year."

But the recently disclosed documents suggest Bannon's relationship with Epstein extended than being his biographer, with the disgraced financier occasionally seeming to act like a personal assistant.

The released messages also show Bannon and Epstein discussing British political matters in 2018.

Earlier on the day of his speech at the Oxford Union, Bannon messaged Epstein: "I've gotten pulled into the Brexit issue this day with Farage, Boris and Mogg."

Then, in what seems like a allusion to the UK prime minister, the embattled British leader at the period, he added: "They are attempting to proceed. May soon…"

Epstein suggested Bannon: "In my view remaining as long as you can in the UK. Ideal- so others get the commitment of your follow through."

Soon after, Epstein asked: "Will Theresa May survive". Bannon replied: "It seems unlikely BUT the people over here have no balls" and added "Boris ; Gove; Rees Mogg; Davis - somebody has to step up".

Theresa May was finally removed in May 2019 after withstanding two votes of no confidence in late 2018.

A representative for the political party informed media: "Nigel Farage has not been in a meeting with Steve Bannon, Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson." And there is nothing to suggest that encounter occurred.

The US House of Representatives will decide soon on whether the justice department should make public all its files concerning its probe into Epstein, who passed away in prison in that year.
