Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser reveals the young girl ā who inherited the toy collection when he grew up ā getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
